bordering Kittson County to the
West, Marshall and Beltrami Counties
to the South, Lake of the Woods
County to the East, and Canada to
the North, Roseau County is the 6th
largest county in the state. It
encompasses nearly 1,800 square
miles and has a population of
16,201. Over 7,500 residents live
within a ten mile radius of the city
of Roseau, our county seat. Other
cities within the county include to
the east, Warroad (located on Lake
of the Woods), Roosevelt, and to the west Badger,
Greenbush and Strathcona.
Roseau County is a young and growing region with a median age of 31 years and ranks 10th in growth in Minnesota. Unlike many other smaller communities, Roseau County has continued to flourish in recent years due to its strong manufacturing and agricultural economy. Polaris Industries, of Roseau, Marvin Windows and Heatmor of Warroad, and Central Broiler of Greenbush, continue to thrive promoting unprecedented growth in the region. Adding to the economic health of this regionís economy is a strong agricultural community. Grass seed production is the primary agricultural enterprise providing 80% of the Timothy and 15% of the Kentucky Blue Grass that is marketed in the United States.

Lake of the Woods with its nearly 14,000 islands provides extensive recreational opportunities including camping, fishing, and boating.
Located in Roseau, Lake of The Woods, and Beltrami counties. Beltrami Island State Forest (BISF) encompasses over 738,000 acres. Canoeing, fishing, hunting, berry picking, picnicking are some popular activities. Additionally, hiking, horseback riding trails, and cross country ski trails are found throughout the forest. There are 120 miles of snowmobile trails and over 50 miles of ATV and OHM trails.
Hayes Lake State Park is located within the Beltrami Island State Forrest and provides 2,950 acres of wilderness to enjoy. Man made Hayes Lake offers a beautiful sandy beach, fishing and canoeing. There are 66 camping sites and two camper cabin offering as many or as few amenities as you prefer.

Despite its rural location, Roseau County offers a wide variety of distinctive art and cultural events and activities. We have two museums, an active arts council as well as a number of quality theater opportunities including the Warroad Summer Theater. The Northern Lights Concert Series brings professional musical and dance groups from across the country to perform during the winter months. In addition, there are many special events scheduled throughout the year including a thriving county fair.
